Getting the “best bang for the buck” on Market Mix expenditures is vital to maximize sales and profits.  Wrong understandings of what works can lead to huge loses in sales and profits. 

Case in point, a Fortune 100 corporation used the services of a major consulting house to determine the effectiveness of its mass media advertising. The consulting house concluded that the advertising was not effective and recommended it be curtailed. The marketing team was convinced that the mass media advertising WAS effective. The Director had a major dilemma as to follow the consultants advice (whose study was paid for by executives higher than his own Divisional Level Management position) or that of his senior management team.
